El Mercado de la Ribera fue inaugurado en 1929,
sobre un proyecto del arquitecto Pedro de Ispizúa.
Es uno de los mercados de abastos más
grandes de Europa, con dos plantas y 10.000 metros
cuadrados. Es el mercado insignia de los siete que
posee la ciudad de Bilbao. Todos ellos están agrupados
bajo la enseña Bilbao Merkatua, gestionada por
la sección de mercados del Ayuntamiento bilbaíno.
