El Mercado Central de Alicante
ocupa un edificio proyectado en
1915 por el arquitecto Francisco
Fajardo Guardiola, escenificando un
estilo modernista en pleno centro
de la ciudad. Fue, sin embargo, su
compañero Juan Vidal Ramos quien
tendría el honor de ver abrir por primera
vez las puertas del mercado en
1921. Arquitectónicamente destaca
la cubierta superior del edificio, filtrando
la luz natural de un cielo mediterráneo
luminoso sobre la superficie
de venta de unos 11.000 metros
cuadrados, en los que se agrupan
cerca de 300 puestos.
